There are still places where prices, quality and human contact make more sense than prime-time debate.
Food is rarely just food once life becomes even mildly unreasonable. It turns into a reset button, a memory system and sometimes a political opinion. A proper bowl of soup or a simple plate prepared without nonsense can restore more order than a motivational speech ever will.
I am not especially interested in culinary theatre. I like dishes that know what they are doing. Good food has structure: flavour, proportion, confidence. It does not panic, it does not over-explain and it does not confuse novelty with depth.
That is part of why certain Polish staples keep winning me over. They are practical without being dull. They feel built by people who expected weather, work and disappointment, then decided to answer with warmth and competence instead.
If that sounds like I am asking too much from lunch, I probably am. But some days a decent meal is the only well-governed institution still available, and I see no reason not to recognise excellence when it appears.
