One side effect of permanent news exposure is verbal inflation.
Everything is unprecedented, shocking, urgent, historic, devastating, explosive and deeply concerning before breakfast. After a while the vocabulary collapses under the strain and you end up reading headlines that sound like somebody shouting in bullet points.
I suspect part of adulthood now is protecting your language from the feed.
Not silence. Just recovery.
